Biography of Toichi KATO

Portrait of Toichi KATO1916 - Japanese painter Toichi KATO was born in Gifu Prefecture.
1941 - Entered Tokyo School of Fine Arts.
1947 - Graduated from Tokyo School of Fine Arts. Awarded his first prize at the 3rd Nitten Exhibition.
1948 - Became a pupil of Hoshun YAMAGUCHI.
1952 - Won the Special Award at the 8th Nitten Exhibition.
1961 - Appointed to the Judge of the Shin-nitten Exhibition.
1970 - Awarded the Prime Minister Prize at the Reorganized Nitten Exhibition.
1975 - Appointed to the Director of the Nitten. Exhibited his work "Wind God" at the 7th Reorganized Nitten Exhibition.
1977 - Received the Japan Art Academy Award. Took office as the Executive Director of the Nitten.
1984 - Appointed to the member of The Japan Art Academy.
1987 - Took office as the Director-General of the Nitten.
1989 - Appointed to the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Nitten.
1991 - Completed paintings on the wall of Kinkaku-ji temple.
1995 - Designated a Person of Cultural Merit.
1996 - Appointed to an adviser of the Nitten. Toichi KATO passed away at the age of 80.
